K-Safe Award

Skyline Corp. receives K-Safe Award

Skyline Corporation, was recognized Friday in Ark City by the Kansas Department of Labor for surpassing 100,000 hours without a lost-time injury and was given the K-Safe Award by Herb Holmberg, a safety consultant with the Kansas Department of Labor.

In addition to the 100,000 hours without a lost-time accident, the facility has gone over 638 days while working almost 250,000 hours without a lost-time injury.

"You can have all the safety programs and policies in place, but if you don't have people that want to be safe then there isn't a program that works," Production Manager Joel Beasley said.

"We think it's a great deal. We're very safety conscious," Skyline employee Guy Marlar said. Beasley attributes much of their safety awareness to looking out and taking care of each other.

"Receiving the award is good. It's just constant work at looking after everybody else and being aware of your surroundings," employee Tom Voorhis said.

Beasley said he thanks Clifford Morris, a safety and health supervisor with Kansas, for his consultations, which have contributed to a safer work environment.
